The commander of the Ekiti State Government -owned security outfit , Ekiti State Peace Corps , Dele Owoju , has disclosed plan by the state government to train 800 operatives of the outfit across the 16 council areas of the state to assist the police in securing the state .
Owoju said the Peace Corps would rely on the police for the training of the operatives.
He reiterated Dr Kayode Fayemi administration ’ s commitment to working with the police and security agencies in the state to make Ekiti safe for all the citizens.
The Peace Corps boss , who spoke in Ado Ekiti during a visit to the new Police Commissioner , Mr Asuquo Amba , said the state government did not establish the security outfit to either rival or flex muscles with the police , but to work in tandem with the force to rid Ekiti of criminals .
Amba praised Fayemi for striving to strengthen community policing in the state , saying the establishment of community policing outfit like the Peace Corps would help the conventional police to combat the rising waves of kidnapping and robbery in Ekiti .
