The Police in Ekiti State said on Saturday that the two officials of the Emure Local Government Area of the state , who were kidnapped by gunmen on Wednesday night had regained their freedom .
The two council staff, Pastor A. Onaade , an administrative officer and Dr . O . Fashina , a primary healthcare official , were kidnapped along Ikere – Ise – Emure Road while returning to Ado Ekiti.
However , an accountant with the local government, Mr Abayomi Ajayi , was on the occasion shot dead by the gunmen who took the two council officials into captivity and demanded N 10 million each as ransom from families of the two kidnap victims .
Police Public Relations Office for Ekiti State Command , DSP Caleb Ikechukwu , told journalists that the captives were freed from their abductors by the police.
Ikechukwu said : “ The Commissioner of Police, Mr Asuquo Amba , had visited the kidnap victims in their respective homes . They are in good shape. It is the duty of the police to ensure that everybody is safe and that we shall continue to do . ”
Although he did not disclose the location where the victims regained their freedom , he said the issue of ransom was not discussed , adding : “The victims never brought this to our notice , they didn ’ t tell us they paid anything .
“ All we did was to do our work and to ensure that they returned home safe and in good health and that we had achieved , ” the police spokesman said .
The police, which on Thursday said investigations were ongoing into the killing of the accountant , are yet to disclose whether he was killed by kidnappers or armed robbers .
