A leading Nigerian opposition politician on Thursday said he intended to run for president in 2019, becoming the first candidate to stake his claim for the country’s top job.

The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose on Thursday declared his intention to contest the 2019 Presidential Election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with a vow to defeat the incumbent, President Mohammadu Buhari in a free and fair election.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has advised the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose against his ambition to be the party’s presidential candidate in 2019.

A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State and  former Group Managing Director of Wema Bank Mr . Bisi Omoyeni , has decleared that the PDP needs a strong candidate to win the 2018 governorship poll in the Ekiti State.

Traditional rulers and the teachers in Ekiti State yesterday endorsed the ‎deputy governor of Ekiti State as the next govenor of the state, saying they were sure he would continue the legacy of  Governor  Ayodele Fayose which has led to at the state’s repeat of coming tops in the recent National Examination Council exams by a margin of 85 percent.
